Sending Money with a Human Touch
I recently just read an article where Safaricom said they do like 100 million transactions a day, that's a lot.
It's hard to understand just how reliant people are to this and to be honest it's because it never breaks, tens of millions have smartphones, almost everyone in Kenya has connection to a phone.
All that is a market that needs to send money contrary to the old way of lining up in a bank.
But what if we had an alternative where millions of the same people could send money but in a new refreshing way. It's a way to pursue the very idea of Social Payments.
What are Social Payments?
In Kenya, we have 15 million people on social media every day, think WhatsApp, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
That is 26.5% of Kenya's population, 1 in 3 people.
The Youth in Kenya are 21 million, with majority being on social media.
We can classify young people as between ages 15-34.
They vlog, watch TikTok, pay using their phones, are in social groups.
What if??
Some Features in Social Payments:
- We could create a payments platform that is as social as ever, you can post pictures of the experiences you have paid for (privately or publicly.)
- You can share your daily stories and text with your friends on relevant things you have paid for.
- You can split bills with your friends
- You sign up using a social username/handle that everyone can view
All this with the goal of enhancing the user experience.
The Big Questions
Basically, we are trying to answer the questions:
- How can we make payments beautiful?
- How can we make people enjoy paying for stuff?
- How can we make payments as social and friendly as possible?
- How can we make people/merchants enjoy and be happy receiving money on our platform?
All of these is easier said than executed, but it's not entirely impossible.
Its a new way to send money but with a very human touch
